David Shindler, in a post for Critical Thinkers, elaborates on mindfulness for busy people. In his piece he discusses consideration of the past, present, and future in order to maintain a healthy mind. My post elaborates on this concept as it applies to business leaders.
In thinking calmly about the past, present, and future, managers and leaders can better align their focus and take a step back to catch their breath in their busy lives.
One could look to the past and consider a moment of personal triumph when it came to business matters. Reflection on such a moment can work to reassure your sense of capability and boost your self-esteem in the process. You may even generate insight into a current issue and re-apply your previous success.
In thinking about the present, a business leader can extract a particular topic of concern and reflect on it with care. Taking a time out to meditate (as Shindler would suggest) could also help ease one’s mind in order to better focus on topics one by one. In focusing on a certain issue-at-hand, a professional can become more aware of his or herself and their own ability to accomplish a relevant goal.
With regard to the future, something most business leaders are constantly thinking of, consideration of goals and company mission can elevate one’s sense of self, or mindfulness in general with regard to business. Take a moment to ask yourself not how your company fits into shaping its future but how you, or a single aspect of you, can shape the company.
Consider these modes of thought and take a moment to relax.
