One of the most important traits of a successful manager is his or her ability to hold their employees accountable and to encourage them to regularly maintain their own accountability.
In a post over at Easy Small Business HR, the author writes that there are a number of ways to increase employee accountability at work.
A major point the author addresses is to orient tasks so that they are measurable to some degree. These tasks rely on goals that are “specific, measurable, achievable, results-oriented, and time-bound.”
Tasks which are measurable provide for a better picture for a manager to understand employee performance. This also allows managers to better adjust their managing style accordingly. Further, tasks which are time-bound and will produce visible results are going to drive the employee to perform and hold themselves accountable as well. The result? Prevention of under-performing employees.
And what to do to reward their success? Consider this post on non-monetary bonuses to help really thank your employees.
How do you hold your employees accountable? How do you hold yourself accountable?
