When HR is done well it sets up and protects the pieces of business necessary for success. It’s really the first part of a business strategy. According to Dawn Passaro at HRmarketer, HR unfortunately gets a poor reputation because of a few reasons:
- “More so than any other department, people go into HR for all the wrong reasons”
- “A lot of what the HR department is tasked to do is, well, administrative,” and
- “HR has to enforce rules and nobody likes those people.”
However, Passaro goes on to explain that when HR is done right it works to develop and strategize business. It sets up and maintains what really is at the core of any task or issue in a business (people).
When the right people are hired, when that right talent is retained, when compensation and benefits are running smoothly for these people, and when employee issues are handled with care, strategy and development can find their place.
