Oregon OSHA released their template training to assist employers in meeting the training requirements outlined in the Temporary Rule Addressing COVID-19 Workplace Risks. Oregon employers must provide training to employees on COVID-19 no later than December 21, 2020.
Their template training covers four of the 10 elements required:
- Characteristics and methods of transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus;
- Symptoms of the COVID-19 disease;
- The ability of pre-symptomatic and asymptomatic COVID-19 persons to transmit the SARS-CoV-2 virus; and
- Safe and healthy work practices and control measures.
Employers can use OR OSHA’s template training and add in the remaining elements explained below and in the Temporary Rule:
- Physical distancing requirements as they apply to the employee’s workplace and job function
- Mask, face covering or face shield requirements as the apply to the employee’s workplace and job function
- COVID-19 sanitation requirements as they apply to the employee’s workplace and job function
- COVID-19 signs and symptom reporting procedures that apply to employee’s workplace
- COVID-19 infection notification process as required by the rule
- Medical removal as required by the rule.
The training template can be found here. OR OSHA has made the training available as a web course, as well as, a customizable PowerPoint presentation available on the right side of the webpage in the link above.
Oregon employers should note that there are more employee training requirements for those workplaces identified as being “workplaces at exceptional risk.” Specifically, infection control training must be provided to employees whose job duties put them in an exceptional risk work environment as defined by the temporary rule. This extra training for employees in exceptional risk workplaces must be provided in addition to (not in lieu of) the standard employee training requirements above.
