Jennifer Schramm writes for the SHRM that employers are developing more effective processes for on-ramping employees. “On-ramping” is a term used to describe “the process of re-entering the workforce after a career break.”
This trend points out a variety of openings which tend to require higher levels of education or experience. This is likely held by considerably older individuals and unattained by the primary talent pools of the young available.
Schramm lists a few broad ideas that can help make the process of on-ramping easier for employers:

  • “Recruiting programs involving alumni groups that help former employees stay in touch and potentially move back into the company fold.
  • An effective development strategy that helps professionals who have been out of the labor market quickly get back into their work grooves.
  • A flexible work environment that enables all employees to effectively manage professional and personal responsibilities.”
